“Now the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, while he was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day.” (Genesis 18:1)
Often we think that we’re “most spiritual” when we’re in church, or when we’re praying or reading the Bible or in times of contemplation. But God always likes to surprise us. When we’re least ready for Him, He visits us. When we least expects it, He appears and changes our lives completely. This happens so many times in the Bible:
God visited Abraham while he was sitting down by the trees to rest from the heat (Genesis 18:1); he was told that Sarah will bear a son.
God visited Jacob by wrestling with him all night (Genesis 32:24); he was given the new name “Israel”.
God visited Moses while he was at work pasturing a flock (Exodus 3:1-2); he was commissioned to be Israel’s deliverer from the Egyptians.
God visited Gideon while he was beating out wheat in the wine press (Judges 6:11); he was chosen as the warrior to save Israel from the Midianites.
God visited Elijah and Elisha while they were walking and talking (2 Kings 2:11); Elijah was taken up to heaven and Elisha received a double portion of Elijah’s spirit.
God visited Ezekiel while he was with the exiles by the river Chebar (Ezekiel 1:1); he was shown great visions and prophesies.
God visited Daniel while he was with a group of people by the river Tigris (Daniel 10:7); he was touched by God and became stronger and more courageous.
God visited Mary when angel Gabriel walked into Mary’s house (Luke 1:28); she became conceived with Jesus Christ.
God visited Saul when he was walking toward Damascus (Acts 9:3); he went from a Christian persecutor to Christ’s apostle.
Are you ready if God visits you now?
