I Am A Straw

I Am A Straw
by Timothy Chan

I am a straw
A drinking straw
I am single-minded
I am very short-lived

I am a straw
An individually wrapped drinking straw
I’m a trusted tool
I’m trusted to deliver drinks to someone’s mouth without germs

I am a straw
An insignificant straw
However colorful or twisty I might look
The focus is not on me but on the smoothie or the drink I’m helping to channel through

I am a straw
A humble straw
My purpose is to serve the drinker
And when the drink is done, I get thrown away

I am a straw
Yet I love it all the more
I’m made to be a trusted instrument in the hands of my Maker
I’m made to bring pleasure to my Maker
